Proud papa

We got to go watch Ellie play in her piano recital this afternoon. She did a fabulous job. I felt especially proudĀ  when her teacher, Karen Wagner, paid a special compliment to Ellie by showing everyone a song that Ellie wrote and then played a piece of it for the other students. It is tough to measure the impact that had on Ellie. She didn’t say a whole lot about it, but I’m just guessing that she’ll hear those kind words over and over again in her head in the years to come.

I remember my kindergarten teacher, Emma Bernard, ONE TIME saying something about me having good handwriting. To this day, that has had an impact on me. My handwriting is terrible now, but I guess back then I actually took the time to write neatly. It’s incredible that nearly 30 years later, that one compliment still shows up from time to time.

I guess that shows the power of words both to build up and tear down.

Anyway, after the recital was over, I got Ellie to pose in front of some flowers in the front yard.

Well done, Ellie! You go, girl!
Lance, that’s a beautiful picture of her in the yard. I can see you’re going to have fun when she hits those “dating” years. (The way kids grow, it won’t be long now.) Perhaps now might be a good time for her to take Karate lessons. Either that, or just let her boyfriends think you’re slightly crazy – that will keep them on their toes. (tee-hee)
